A journey to kitchenware nirvana!

My sister in law loves to shop. That isn't to say that she's always a buyer but she can scout for hours until she finds something that takes her fancy. When it comes to things like clothes, I tend to be more of a go in and get what you're after and get out pronto kind of girl.

But when it comes to kitchen ware, books and food it is a very different story my friends. In this department my sister in law and I are not only singing from the same hymn book but we are on the same page, singing the same line in complete harmony.

So when their family came to visit from out of town, we decided to head into the homeware and kitchen mecca that is Peter's of Kensington.

Located on Anzac Parade in Kensington, it was pouring with rain the morning that we decided to treck out there. Not only that, with the temporary closure of the Harbour Bridge, traffic in the Harbour Tunnel was horrendous. But these were minor matters and we were not to be deterred.

Arriving in Kensington, my sister in law said a little prayer to the parking angels (literally) and wouldn't you know it, a car pulled out pretty much immediately leaving us with a convenient parking spot. Directly in front of a lovely cafe. Right across the road from Peter's of Kensington.

To toast our good fortune, we made for the cafe and ordered coffees and brunch; she a massive plate of decadent french toast and I a breakfast special called the Mediterranean breakfast which had sun dried tomato and haloumi scrambled eggs on toasted sourdough. Fed and caffinated, we headed straight across the road.

If you haven't been here, Peter's is HUGE. It is three stories of home heaven. If you're a foodie then you can pretty much get anything you need from cookware, glassware, dinnerware, cook books and the list goes on and on. It's not a place that you rush through. Even if you wanted to you will a) be prevented from rushing by the pure mechanics of people everywhere and b) there is so much to look at that there is competition for your attention at every turn.

There is a lovely looking in house cafe which I've never tried but given the sizeable brunch we had consumed there was no need to make a pit stop here.

For the next couple of hours we trawl through dinnerware, cookware, glassware, linens, towels, cook books and more. Of course the areas where I spent most of my time was in the cookware, cook book and gourmet food sections. Then eventually I had to tell myself to step away from the cook books.

So did I buy anything? You bet! I walked away with a new slice pan, a beautiful Christmas table cloth, some gorgeous princess paper cups for my niece's 3rd birthday party, a new frying pan and some Kath Kidston drawer liners.

And did I mention that just about everything was 10% off at the counter?!!

Please note that this was not a paid post, just ramblings by someone who loves kitchen ware way too much!

It seems whenever I go to Peters of Kensington it's always raining. It's a great shop isn't it and it's so hard to leave there without buying something. I always come home with more pink bags than I was expecting.

For the 20 years I've lived in Sydney I've only been to Peter's twice. Once at Kensington and more recently the one in Alexandria. LOVE wandering around kitchenware stores like this!

I haven't been here for yonks. There is nothing nicer than slowly rolling through kitchen ware shops, normal shops no appeal what so ever...but kitchen ware? Ahhh, there is always a little something else that could be needed.

The best part about Peter's is if you can't be bothered dealing with the crowds at sale time you can buy online and it arrives in no time! Best. Shop. Ever.

The Victoria's Basement warehouse in Alexandria is my other favourite.
